Engineering Manager

You are proud of your ability to communicate, mentor, motivate, mediate, and do all the other things that keep a high-performing team aligned. Exercising some of these other skills and helping others to build them is what makes you happy. 

If that sounds like you, this engineering manager role could be an excellent fit. 

The company is a Series B-funded startup using AI to monitor threats to large supply chains. So yes they do have a proper use case, and they have the case studies from real clients to prove it. The space is complex, and real-time data is at the heart of what they do. As an engineering manager looking after four teams of engineers assigned to building tools for data scientists, you and your teams will be working in the engine room of this fast-moving business. 

The opportunity here is to operate with real autonomy. Your manager, Thomas, wants you to bring ideas and insights based on your experience and implement them to benefit the teams you manage. He likes people who tell him what they are doing rather than ask what they should do. You have four teams to start with a tech lead in each, and they will be your primary focus. Set them up for success, help them navigate, help them coach, and help them deliver. The company is still growing, and so will your reach and responsibilities. 

What experience do you need to be a good fit; 

• Previous experience leading a team (people manager, not just tech lead) 

• A track record of creating a culture of performance

• A trail of happy, high-performing engineers in your wake 

• Technical background in building software with JVM languages 

• Bonus points if you have worked with Scala. 

FAQ’s

• Can I work remotely? This role is two days a week in an office in Vienna. If you wanted to spend more days in the office one week and then do a full week from home the next week that would be fine. The key consideration is being someone who enjoys people and thinks working in person as a team is a positive rather than a negative.  

• What is the salary? Up to €120 000
